Annual event once again promises strong educational program With the remodeling market starting to gain momentum, the Remodeling Show returns to the East Coast this year, once again co-located with DeckExpo. The annual event, featuring a busy educational conference, is scheduled to run October 9-12 at the Baltimore Convention Center in that Maryland city. Last year in Chicago, the Remodeling Show saw another year of recovery with more than 300 exhibitors and more than 6,000 attendees. It also enjoyed an uptick in window and door industry exhibitors. This year, many of the big window and door exhibitors are returning, but there appears to be fewer replacement window specialists on the show floor. EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM The Remodeling Show always features a strong educational program. A "Business Skills Boot Camp" kicks off the day before the show opens with a full agenda of sessions covering various topics related to project management, sales and marketing, and running a business. The show floor will also offer opportunities, including a new session focused on "Installing Durable Exteriors." Featuring Rick Arnold, a contractor with more than 30 years of experience, as well as expertise Energy Star construction, the clinic will feature step-by-step installation training with a focus on getting the most out of the latest in door, window and siding products. Also hosting regular educational sessions on the floor will be Therma-Tru, which will focus on best practices for door installation, and Andersen, which will offer sessions devoted to replacement double hung and storm door products. Also returning to the Remodeling Show this year, the Building Performance Zone will host clinics throughout the show and will be surrounded by manufacturers with relevant products. The Lead-Safe Practices Zone is designed as an information center on the show floor that provides a comprehensive guide to the rules, regulation and equipment required for the safe removal of lead paint from homes. New this year will be Home for Life exhibit developed by the Remodeling Training Institute. With aging-in-place remodeling expected by many to be the next business boom, this exhibit will provide information on universal design and ways to market to baby boomers, and feature demos of a remodeled virtual home incorporating the latest in universal design principles. WDDA EVENT In addition to the official Remodeling Show program, the Window & Door Dealers Alliance will host a reception Thursday evening in Baltimore. "We want to give window and door dealers attending the Remodeling Show an opportunity to learn about WDDA and our activities," says the organization's David Walker. "We'll send out more details as we get closer to the event, but we are planning a casual event that will enable show attendees to meet our dealer members and give them a sense of the value of becoming part of WDDA."
