Remodeling Show
Looks to Rebound
Window and door makers will be on hand for September event in Baltimore
Co-locating last year with DeckExpo, the Remodeling Show returns to Baltimore this year with another new partner, the inaugural Plumbing & Hyponics
Expo. The annual event, scheduled for September 14 to
17, also features an expanded conference and education
program this year, including lead RRP and training and
new sessions targeted at specialty contractors.
Last year’s Remodeling Show, held in Indianapolis, felt
the impact of the residential remodeling market downturn of recent years. The 2009 event featured 263 exhibitors and total attendance just over 5,000, down from past
highs of 10,000 attendees. The final numbers were “in line
with the domestic residential construction activity,” says
Amy Allen, director of the Remodeling Show and DeckExpo. Attending companies–for the majority–sent the
most key individuals instead of the entire staff like in past
years, she also notes.
One trend evident at recent Remodeling Shows has
been the diminishing presence of window and door manufacturers. Maryland-based Vytex Windows returns to
the event this year, and Thermal Industries is featuring its
Park Avenue Window Collecton program, but many of the
vinyl replacement window companies that once hosted
large displays at this event are not on the list of exhibitors.
Many of the big brand name window and door manufacturers will be in Baltimore, however, including Andersen,
Lincoln, Marvin, Pella, Ply Gem and Therma Tru. An article following on page 74 of this issue highlights products
several industry exhibitors will be featuring.
CONFERENCE
As usual, the Remodeling Show will provide a variety
of educational opportunities for attendees. In addition
to sessions devoted to enhancing sales, marketing, HR,
and other aspects of a remodeling business, this year’s
program features a variety of sustainable remodeling
courses, including one devoted to the use of lighting and
daylighting led by Doug Walter, a Colorado architect. Also
on the program are full-day courses enabling attendees to
become EPA-recognized lead-certified renovators.
A number of exhibitors will be offering clinics and
demonstrations on the show floor, including Azek, Andersen and Therma Tru. Overall, the educa- tional program includes more than 50 sessions. The conference begins Sunday, September 12. The trade show runs from Wednesday, September 15, to Friday, September 17. The Remodeling Show is organized by Hanley Wood Exhibitions and sponsored by NAHB Remodelers and Remodeling Magazine. A complete schedule, as well as an updated list of exhibi- tors and more information about the event, is available at www.theremodeling- show.com. w Last year, the Remodeling Show was co-located for the first time with the DeckExpo.
Vytex Windows will be one of
a relatively small contingent of
window manufacturers exhibiting
at the Remodeling Show this year.
